Cervical Injection for Migraine
Cervical injection for chronic migraine, neck pain or maxillofacial pain can be beneficial. Why this works is unclear, but it is thought to involve the trigeminal caudate nucleus which acts as a relay center. The retrospective chart review: Treatment of headaches in the ED with lower cervical intramuscular bupivicaine injections: a 1-year retrospective review of 417 patients. Headache.2006 Oct;46(9):1441-9 my Mellick et al, suggests that the intramuscular injection of small amounts of 0.5% of bupivicaine bilateral to the sixth or seventh cervical spinous process appears to be an effective therapeutic intervention for the treatment of headache in the outpatient setting.
